Gregory Alan Segrest was born into this world on February 16, 1982, in Huntsville Al. He went home to the Church Triumphant on May 15,2026 in Helena, Al.
He grew up in Hoover, AL with his parents Charles (Chuck) and Lee, and older brother Michael. He was active in the church and youth group. As he got older, he continued to be an active part of the youth group- not only as a friend to all, but mentor.
Greg was also friends with his wife, Melissa, where friendship blossomed into love for over 20 years. They attended the University of Montevallo, where he graduated with a bachelor's in business management. After graduating in May 2005, Greg and Melissa were married.
During their time living in Pelham, AL they Fostered for the Greater Birmingham Humane Society. Large or small, all breeds were welcomed. (All though in the later years after fostering, they had a huge heart for the Pitbull breed).
Greg was a huge Alabama fan, every Saturday that Alabama was playing, you could always find him with the game on (or listening!) decked out in all his Alabama gear, and with one of the fur babies (usually Tucker) curled up with him. If you called, he'd tell you to come on over- we've got snacks!
His faith was so big that when he heard about the opportunity to go on a mission trip with Amor Ministries, he was the first one to sign up! (Although he really had to convince his girly girl wife to go (at first).) Those trips changed their lives, and they came along to keep serving as a part of the staff. They had the honor and privilege to serve as missionaries in Mexico for about five years. Then they heard the Lord nudging them to go back home to Alabama in 2018.
To know Greg was to also know his background of all car things. He loved working on his own car. If you broke down or needed help- call Greg. And his response was always- it's all good! He also loved going to the junk yard to see what treasure (aka what part) he could find.
Greg was able to take his knowledge of cars through working as an Estimator at a body shop and then expanded his knowledge as an PD Manager at Commonwealth Casualty Insurance. He loved trying to help people. Anytime a co-worker asked a question- the response he gave was always- it's All Good!
Greg had the best memory if you couldn't remember- ask Greg! He can tell you! (He could and did tell you, which could drive his wife crazy at times....)
He also loved Legos. If you look around our home, you will find them displayed. Greg and Melissa would have date nights to go and pick out a new Lego set and put them together. If Melissa got frustrated, he said- give it to me- I got it. It just clicks for me.
Greg will be remembered for being a loving husband, a beloved son, the rock, and a friend to all. He had the best laugh and could light up a room. He never met a stranger (even at Walmart at midnight!). He had an infectious attitude, and humble- never wanting to be the focus of attention. He gave the best hugs- they just wrapped you up.
Roll Tide!
Greg is survived by his wife, Melissa (Stepanski) Segrest, his parents Charles and Lee Segrest, brother Michael (Destiny). His mother-in-law, Kathy Stepanski, sister-in-law Sherry Stepanski, and father-in-law Walt Stepanski (Jaqutia). Aunts Sheri (Russ) Ferguson, Beverly (Randall) Griggs, Lynn Hulberg, his loved fur babies Lela Marie and Winston Elliott, and a host of family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Charles Graham Jr and Carolyn Segrest, grandparents Richard Charles and Betty Lou Baumgarten and his beloved fur baby, Tucker Bryce.
We are all so very lucky and blessed to have a Greg in this world and he will be dearly missed.
It's not goodbye, just see ya later!
