Grace Marie Hill passed away in her home on the morning of April 9th, 2025 in Pelham, Alabama. She was born July 2nd, 1958 in Pico Rivera, California to John Joseph McWeeney and Hannah Veronica McWeeney. The sixth of nine children, she married Robert Alexander Hill the afternoon of July 31st, 1982-a fruitful forty-two year marriage bearing seven children, not to be dissolved but for her death.
Her anxieties which plagued her as a child, adolescent, and young woman were overcome by an overwhelming sense she ought to consider life with a certain levity, even if at her own expense. Anyone she received into her company was immediately disarmed because of her willingness to humble herself in order that they felt welcomed.
This newfound humor she carried always, a uniquely female humor dressed with an earnestness and a laughter which penetrated all pretense, a humor that steeled her resolve no matter her trial.
Diagnosed with three debilitating brain and spine related diseases after having given birth to her last child, any physically demanding act would leave her incapacitated and in agony the day following.
The more she gave, the more she suffered. And she gave abundantly all the same.
Once her body had nothing left to give, her mind then relented, demonstrating symptoms of dementia shortly before making residence in Alabama. Seldom was she found without a smile and remarkably could she recognize the face of a distant relative, even in the waning days of her illness.
All these crosses she bore unfailingly because of her love for the Lord, and her devotion to His Mother.
She is preceded in death by her father and mother, and by her eldest brother John Thomas McWeeney.
She is survived by her widower Robert, her children Andrew, Brenna, John, Michael, Jacob, David, and Zach, her siblings Kevin, Mary, Anne, Christine, Theresa, Kathleen, and Sheila, her five children-in-law, and her fourteen grandchildren.
We commend her spirit to the Lord in death and pray for the repose of her soul as she meets her Final Judgement
