Gordon “Neil” Flowers, lovingly known as Dad and Poppi, was born on October 1, 1956, and passed away on December 2, 2025. Neil was a man whose life was defined by deep faith, steady kindness, and a willingness to give of himself to anyone in need. His warm presence, generous heart, and unwavering devotion to his family and church made him a blessing to all who knew him.
Born to his loving mother Eula Merle Jones and father Gordon Calvin Flowers, Neil was raised in Bay Minette, Alabama, where he learned the values of compassion, service, and faith—principles that shaped the man he became. He went on to attend Troy State University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree, completing a double major in History and Music. He proudly graduated in 1980, the same year he moved to Hoover to begin building the life that would become his legacy.
Neil dedicated 33 years of his life to Alfa Insurance, serving his community with integrity, professionalism, and genuine care. His ability to connect with people made him more than an insurance agent—he became a trusted friend to many.
On October 9, 1982, Neil married the love of his life, Lisa Joann Powell. Together they built a home grounded in faith, laughter, and unwavering devotion to family. Their marriage was a testament to commitment and partnership, and they stood side by side for more than four decades.
Neil lived a full and vibrant life, embracing every moment he could on the water or with his family. He loved fishing, cruising on his boat at Lake Pickwick, and cheering on his grandchildren at baseball games, football games, and wrestling meets. Known for his warmth, humor, and gentle spirit, he cherished his roles as both Dad and Poppi above all else.
He was especially known for his incredible shrimp—whether he was grilling it to perfection on a warm afternoon or boiling it up for family gatherings. His shrimp was so unforgettable that it even earned him a feature on the local news. Cooking shrimp became one of his favorite ways to bring people together, sharing love through every meal he prepared.
Neil is survived by his devoted wife, Lisa Flowers; his sons Nicholas, Christopher, and Patrick; and his beloved grandchildren Connor, Turner, Landon, Mason, and Kinzlee. He leaves behind a family who loved him deeply and countless friends who were blessed by his presence.
Neil fought bravely through his final day, surrounded by love and lifted by the prayers of those who adored him. Though he will be profoundly missed, the legacy he leaves—of faith, family, kindness, music, and joy—will continue to guide and inspire all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers — “the family name covers that 😉” — the family requests donations may be made to the Hunter Street Worship Arts Ministry to ensure Neil’s legacy lives on in worship.
