George Hanlin Jackman, age 104, of Spring, Texas, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026. Born in Hickory, North Carolina, George lived a remarkable life defined by service, dedication, and kindness.

George proudly served his country as a Navy pilot during World War II, demonstrating courage and commitment during a pivotal time in history. Following his military service, he built a long and successful career with General Electric, where he worked for more than 35 years before retiring. A man of quiet strength and steady character, George was known and loved by all who knew him for his patience, gentle nature, and genuine kindness. His positive outlook on life was reflected in his favorite responses whenever someone asked how he was doing—he would smile and say he was “sitting pretty” or “jolly good.”

George also had a deep love for the game of golf. As an avid golfer, he continued playing 18 holes twice a week well into his early nineties, a testament to his vitality and enthusiasm for life.

Reaching the extraordinary milestone of 100 years of age earned George a special title among those closest to him. Friends and family affectionately referred to him as “King George,” a nickname that reflected both admiration and the love they held for him.

George was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Margaret Jackman; his brother, Joe Jackman; and his sisters, Rachael Ketchie and June Evans. He is survived by his daughters, Amy Whalen of Bessemer, Alabama, and Debra Jackman of Spring, Texas; his sons-in-law Michael Whalen and Darryl Scearce; his grandson Matthew Watkins; and his great-granddaughter Brooklyn Harmon and husband Riley Harmon.

A funeral service to celebrate George’s life will be held on Saturday, March 21, at 11:00 a.m. at Currie Jefferson Funeral Home, 2701 John Hawkins Parkway, Hoover, Alabama 35244. Family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 10:30 am. Burial will immediately follow at the same location.

George’s long life was a blessing to those who knew him. He was a man who consistently sacrificed his own comfort and desires for the happiness and well-being of others. He will be remembered and cherished for generations to come.
