Floyd Edgar Gilliland

Floyd Edgar Gilliland was born September 23, 1942 and passed away April 10, 2023 at 80 years of age. He went home to be with Our Lord, his parents and little dog, Gizmo, that he dearly loved. April 10th was six days after his 53^rd wedding anniversary. He was a loving son, husband, father and friend. Floyd was predeceased by both his parents, Alvin Floyd Gilliland and Grace Elizabeth Pickle. He left behind a devoted and loving wife, Patricia Holtzclaw Gilliland, three children, Floyd Shayne Gilliland (Courtney), Terri Juanice Wilkerson (Bobby), and Chad Travis Gilliland; a grandson that he raised Chandler Travis Gilliland (ReyRey), nine grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Floyd attended Ensley High School and went to work at Alpha Portland Cement Company in Powderly for 19 years. He was a 1^st class repairman when they closed down in 1980 and went into business for himself. For the next 35+ years he owned and operated Floyd’s Handyman Service and Gilliland Enterprises, was in partnership with G&B Properties; all pertaining to repairs, real estate and rentals. One of his greatest joys was flying, he owned and flew several planes at different times at Bessemer Airport and treasured all his friends and good times he had there.  Also he loved boating at his house on Smith Lake, although fishing was not his strong suit. He enjoyed many cruises, traveling to see new places and country music (a big old time Opry fan). Floyd was a good man, always ready to help his friends. He was good with his hands, not a surgeon, but could fix about anything; anything but a broken heart. His friends that knew him will surely miss him, but the ones that loved him will never be the same without him.

There will be a gathering to greet friends at 12:30 p.m. followed by a short service at 1:00 p.m., Monday, April 17, 2023 in the chapel of Currie-Jefferson Memorial Gardens on Hwy 150, concluding at the graveside.

Pallbearers will be Chandler Gilliland, Ray Wilkerson, Tyler Weber, Michael Powers, Josh Caldwel and Billy Guthrie. Honorary pallbearer Braxton Hopper.
