Eugenia Elizabeth Carter Milling

Eugenia Elizabeth "Jeannie" Carter Milling, 78, passed away on August 10, 2026, in Jasper, Alabama.

Jeannie was born on February 9, 1948, in Birmingham, Alabama, to A.Z. Carter Jr. and Annette Thompson Carter. The oldest of five children, she grew up in Mobile alongside her siblings, Chrissie, Buzzy, Merrianne, and Andy. She graduated from Toolen High School and earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of South Alabama in Mobile. She later lived and worked in Birmingham before retiring to Arley, Alabama, on the shores of her beloved Smith Lake.

Jeannie's life was rooted in her love for God and her large family. She quietly lived out her faith through service to others, taking Holy Communion to those who were unable to attend Mass and volunteering at Jessie's Place, a ministry serving women and children in Birmingham.

A gifted and successful women's basketball coach, Jeannie had a remarkable ability to excel at anything she set her mind to. Her many talents included sailing, playing the piano, and ping-pong. She loved classical music, especially Andrea Bocelli and the Three Tenors. Her favorite opera was Carmen, and her favorite musical was The Phantom of the Opera.

Jeannie was a fun-loving person with a warm and caring heart. The people she loved were the center of her world, and she treasured the time, laughter, and memories they shared. Some of her happiest moments were spent with her family at Smith Lake, riding in the boat and enjoying the place she loved most. Her cherished dogs, Honey and then Spot, also held a special place in her heart.

Jeannie leaves behind her children, Jamie and Matt, her daughter-in-law, Amy; her grandchildren, Quint, Sophie, Emma, Carter, and Evan; her siblings, Chrissie, Buzzy, Merrianne, and Andy; her cousin Alvin; her stepmother Debbie; her stepbrother Steven; nine beloved nieces and nephews; and a large extended family who will lovingly remember her. She was preceded in death by her parents, A.Z. Carter Jr. and Annette Thompson Carter.

Visitation will be held Saturday, August 15, 2026, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, 2701 John Hawkins Parkway, Hoover, Alabama 35244. A Celebration of Life will follow at 10:00 a.m.
