Ellie Mcbryde

July 11, 1932 — March 16, 2021

Ellie (Dell) McBryde, 88, passed into eternity and into the presence of Jesus on March 16, 2021 in Madison, Alabama.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 20that the Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home in Hoover, Alabama, with burial to follow.  Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, prior to the service at the funeral home.

Dell was born July 11, 1932 in Bradley, Mississippi, to Allie and Ellen Patterson. Dell worked for a time in Jackson, Mississippi before moving to Montgomery, Alabama.  While in Montgomery, Dell met Gordon (Mac) McBryde, Sr. of Birmingham through a mutual friend. She married Mac and moved to the Birmingham area where they resided in Center Point, Crestwood, Alabaster, Bluff Park, and Bessemer during their 43 years of marriage. They lived for the longest period in Bluff Park while raising their family and then settled in Bessemer for their retirement years together.  For the past 14 years, after the passing of Mac, Dell has resided in Madison, Alabama to be closer to her children and grandchildren.

Dell worked for a number of years in Birmingham with the Internal Revenue Service and greatly enjoyed many friendships with her co-workers.  Dell and Mac were long time, active members of Shades Crest Baptist Church, both as parents and then as senior adults, enjoying many trips and fellowships with their friends.  Dell and Mac shared a love for traveling, gardening, and bowling and were always very loving and attentive parents to their children and grandchildren.

Dell has resided at The Madison Village for most of her 14 years in Madison, Alabama.  Dell especially enjoyed playing Canasta and Rummikub with her friends there and was blessed to be involved in the many activities provided for the residents.  Dell loved all those who cared for her and she and we so appreciate their many words and acts of encouragement, care and love through the years.

Dell was an active member of Trinity Baptist in Madison for a number of years and then joined Mount Zion Baptist Church where her children are also members.

Dell is preceded in death by her parents: Allie and Ellen Patterson; her husband, Gordon B. McBryde, Sr.; brother, James (Pat) Patterson; and sisters Oma Lee Patterson, Ida Wharton, Mary Carver Moore and Mattie Coleman.

Surviving family include her son, Gordon B. McBryde, Jr. (Sheree) of Madison; her daughter, Shere McBryde Rucker (Richard) of Monrovia; her grandson, Phillip McBryde (Caitlin) of Birmingham; her granddaughters, Mary Beth McBryde of Seattle, and Katie and Hannah Rucker; her great-granddaughter, Elouise McBryde; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (billygraham.org).
