Elizabeth Ann Wilder McCord of Pelham, AL passed away peacefully Monday, November 3, 2025 at the age of 88. She was preceded in death by her husband Billy Fred McCord on November 23, 2022, and is survived by her son Tim McCord and his daughter Natalya McCord; daughter Melanie Moore (Ed) and her daughters Rebecca Norman (Blake) and Haley Moore; and daughter Barbara Flowers and her daughter Ashley Shipman (Heath) and great-granddaughter Olivia Grace Shipman. She loved her children, granddaughters, and great granddaughter, and delighted in spending time with them as often as possible
One of four children born to the late Joseph Winfred and Mattie Lee Stephens Wilder, Ann was born in Roanoke, AL on December 3, 1936. Her sister Allyne Kirby and brother Bill Wilder preceded her in death, and her remaining sibling Ralph Wilder currently resides in Tennessee. Ann graduated from Randolph County High School in 1955, and attended business school in Birmingham for a short time afterwards. She and Bill were married on June 24, 1956, and moved to Birmingham. They were happily married for 66 years in June of 2022.
Ann and Bill raised their children in Birmingham, where she taught a five year old Sunday school class at Roebuck Park Baptist Church for many years. After her children were older, she then taught kindergarten at the same church for over 25 years. She was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker, and was respected as a wonderful cook and talented seamstress.
Ann was a patient, loving, and supportive wife, and leaves behind a legacy of enduring patience, compassion, love, and strength. She was a strong figure in her family’s life and was treasured by them. A graveside service for family and friends will be conducted at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, AL on Wednesday, November 12, at 12:30 p.m. with Pastor Brian Hinton presiding. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations to the Alabama Alzheimer’s Association be considered in Ann’s honor.
