Edward Clay Lawhon was born on October 11, 1957, in Amory, Mississippi to Elmer and Fay Lawhon. He grew up at his family’s farm in Sulligent Alabama where he grew a love for nature, animals, and the simplicities of life in the countryside. He graduated from Sulligent High School in 1976 in his hometown and later obtained his bachelor’s degree in Horticulture at Mississippi State University.
During his college years, Edward also had the opportunity to be a missionary in Honduras to help aid those in need and developed a love for the Hispanic culture during that time. Additionally, he became proficient in Spanish after studying the language at University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
Edward later met his lovely wife, Alborada, through her brother, who she was visiting in New Orleans at the time. In 1987, Edward and Alborada were married in the country of Panama, surrounded by family, and moved to Birmingham, Alabama to start a new life together. They later welcomed three beautiful children, Kevin, Valerie, and Amy.
Edward began his professional career in a managerial role in the pest control business and later worked as a sales representative for various territories at Flowerwood Nursery for 18 years. It was no secret that Edward had a love for nature and plants. He grew all different types of fruits, vegetables, herbs, in his beloved home garden. Edward was often called the “green thumb” of the family and would always lend a helping hand to friends or family by giving them planting tips, bringing their plants back to life, or gifting them plants or produce.
Edward was also a devout Christian and God-fearing man. He had grown up in the Christian faith and continued to nourish his relationship with the Lord throughout his entire life. Edward and his wife, Alborada, raised their children in their faith and showed them what a loving marriage looked like. Edward was a loving husband and father. He was kind, generous, and always willing to help others. Edward was a special man and will be deeply missed by all of his loved ones, as he made a lasting impact on many lives.
He was preceded in death by his father, E.C. Lawhon. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Alborada, his son Kevin, his daughters Valerie and Amy, his mother, Fay, and his brothers Steven and Larry. Edward will be missed by all extended family and friends.
