MATTHEW 11:28
"Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."
Douglas Lloyd Wilson was born on June 19, 1963 and passed to eternity on March 25, 2026 at 11:28 AM. He was 62 years old.
Doug was a man of great faith, but he was also very honest about the fact that his journey was anything but easy. His faith in Jesus was evidenced by many different things in his life, but the overriding thread of his testimony that will live on, is the perseverance he demonstrated in running his race with dignity to the appointed time that he now rests in the arms of Jesus and has heard the words we all long to hear: Well done good and faithful servant!
He and his lovely wife Janet faced some very difficult circumstances over the years, but they navigated them together believing God is faithful, demonstrated in how they walked together and becoming stronger as a couple day by day.
Doug was an accountant by trade, having graduated from Samford University in 1985 and spent the majority of his career with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama.
One of those guys who never met a stranger, Doug experienced many situations that gave him memories and stories that, unless you knew him, you couldn't imagine those stories were even true at times, but when he re-told them as only he could do, they provided great joy and laughter to those who were privileged to hear them.
He was an avid golfer and a sports enthusiast. While he had a passion for golf and college football, one of his greatest joys occurred almost every year when these two pastimes were combined in a trip with his Dad and his brother. The wonderful stories and memories made during these trips are too many to be told here.
Those things described above reflect things Doug did. However, one of the greatest reflections of who Doug truly was is demonstrated in his passion for music and singing. Music became a pipeline for Doug to offer unhindered worship to God as well as an outlet to pour out his own heart proclaiming what Christ had done in his life. Every time he sang whether by solo or in a group, he did so with every ounce of his being, sharing the good news and gospel of Jesus Christ with every breath, note and verse. He, his heart, his voice and even some of his unfiltered comments will be greatly missed. While we hurt in our loss, we know that "the only scars in heaven are the hands who hold him now."
He is preceded in death by his mother, Sue Wilson. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Janet, his children Lauren Manly (Matthew), Andrew Wilson, and Kayla Faith Wilson, his grandchildren Jackson and Remi, his parents Larry and Alys Wilson, his brother Darryl Wilson (Debbie) and his sister, Audrey Griner (Talley). Doug also had a niece and two nephews whom he loved very much.
The family wishes to thank the entire medical team that served and walked with Doug during the last several years, including but not limited to Dr. McGuire and the UAB hepatology team, Dr. Tucker and the hematology staff at Alabama Oncology, Dr. McGrath at Birmingham Gastroenterology and the nursing staff at Aveanna Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested honorariums be made to Autism Support of Alabama and/or to Unless U.
