Dorothy Ramsey

March 18, 1929 — October 17, 2023

The Hoover Community lost one of their own on October 18th, when Dorothy Wardene Ramsey passed away due to natural causes. She passed away peacefully at the age of 94. She was born in Drew, Mississippi on March 18th, 1929 to Luther Lee Watkins and Hattie Mae Murrell Watkins. She married Edward Ramsey on September 22nd, 1950. They had no children. Dorothy was preceded in death by her loving husband of 71 years, Edward Lee Ramsey in 2021.

After their marriage, Dorothy and Ed lived and worked in the Birmingham area where she continued her education. She was certified as a teacher in 1953. She will always be known by Mrs. Ramsey to the many children she taught at Mountain Brook Elementary where she retired in 1989. Although her name was Dorothy Wardene Ramsey, she was better known to friends and neighbors as Dot.

After they both retired, Dot and Ed traveled extensively in the US and abroad, learning about the customs and enjoying the cuisine in the countries they visited. Alabama was always home and they both enjoyed an active retirement in Birmingham. While in her 80s Dorothy was still practicing yoga and regularly attending exercise classes. She also enjoyed cooking delicious meals. But, if Alabama was playing football, you had to wait until the game was over to get them on the phone.

Both Dorothy and Ed were life members of the American Association of Woodworkers and they frequently traveled to annual AAW conventions where many of Ed's works would invariably win a blue ribbon.

Internment will be held at The Abbey Mausoleum at Jefferson Memorial Gardens South, next to her loving husband, Ed.
