Doris Ophelia Chesser

Mrs. Doris Chesser, 97, of Bessemer, Alabama (Greenwood Community) passed away on Saturday-January 31, 2026.

She was born January 17, 1929 in Montevallo, Alabama, the daughter of Young & Ole Mae Pickett.

Mrs. Chesser worked for the Hercules Powder Plant for 18 years as a purchasing agent and retired in 1984. She worked for Monroe Electric for a couple of years and then worked for Wal-Mart in Hoover as a greeter at the front door on the grocery side. She always greeted customers with a smile and made them feel welcome.

She loved her family, friends and her Canaan Baptist Church family. Mrs. Doris was a member of Canaan Baptist Church since 1964. She was a faithful and dedicated worker in the Children's Ministry & Special Buddies Class. She was also a mighty prayer warrior. She loved serving at The Grace Place in her spare time .

She is survived by her sister, Annette Byars, son, Alan Chesser (Kimberly), grandchildren: Chad (Holley) Chesser, Kyle Chesser, Kaci (Trey) McCombs, Andrew (Tori) Cowan, Jaden (Madeline) Cowan and great grandchildren: Lincoln, Liam, Charlotte, Camille, Tripp, Garis, Cam and Zoey.

Mrs. Chesser was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles, her parents, Ole Mae and Young Pickett as well as her siblings.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Canaan Baptist Church "Children's Ministry" in memory of Mrs. Doris Chesser.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday-February 5, 2026 at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home with visitation at 10 AM and funeral service at 11 AM in the Chapel. There will be a private graveside service for family following service.
