Donna Gaye Franklin

Donna Dodson Franklin, age 78, of Bessemer, Alabama, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2026, with her loving family by her side.

Donna was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Earnest Lee Franklin; her father, Walter Dodson Jr., who passed during her childhood; and her mother and stepfather, Charlotte Marie and Roy Wesley Shelton.

She is survived by her devoted son, Justin Lee Franklin; her brother, Ronald Walter Dodson; and her sister, Joy Shelton Scurlock (Don). Donna also leaves behind several cherished nieces and nephews.

Those who knew Donna will remember her deep appreciation for the beauty and stories of the past. She had a remarkable eye for antiques and found great joy in her work at the local antique gallery, where her passion and knowledge were evident to all who met her.

Donna also had a spirited enthusiasm for sports, especially Alabama football, which she followed with unwavering loyalty and excitement. She treasured time spent at family reunions, where laughter and togetherness meant the most to her, and she found great joy in trips to the beach, enjoying the peace and beauty of the shore.

She will be remembered for her gentle nature, her steady love for her family, and the simple, meaningful way she lived her life. Though her presence will be deeply missed, the love she gave and the memories she created will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew her.

Visitation will be held Friday, April 17, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with the service to follow at 12:00 noon at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, 2701 John Hawkins Parkway, Hoover, Alabama 35244.
