Deane "Deanie" Coe, 72, wife of Gene Coe, passed away Sunday evening, May 29, 2022 quietly at home surrounded by family and friends. Born November 18, 1949 to the late John and Betty Summerford, she is survived by her husband of 14 years, Gene Coe, her loving son, Matt Stephens, sister, Diane (Tommy) Lenoir, along with two loving nieces.
Deane was a devoted wife and loving mother who truly loves the Lord with all of her heart. She was a member of Canaan Baptist Church for 48 years and served in many roles as an active servant of the Lord. From Vacation Bible School to Senior Adult Ministry, Deane served her Lord well.
She is probably best known as a first grade teacher at Greenwood Elementary School where she served her community since 1974. She touched many children and received numerous awards during her career including Teacher of the Year, Principal's Award and Golden Apple Award. Listed five times in Who's Who Among America's Teachers, her accomplishments are well documented. Educated at Montevallo University with a Bachelor's Degree in Education and then a Master's Degree in Education from Samford University. Forever devoted to her teaching profession, it was more than a job to Deanie, it was a calling. She influenced hundreds of lives and extended the Lord's ministry to countless children through her chosen profession. Her classroom was her pulpit.
The family will receive friends on Monday, June 6, 2022 from 10:00 to 11:00 am at Canaan Baptist Church, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 am at the church with Rev. Morgan Bailey officiating. Committal service will be at 2:00 pm at Alabama National Cemetery.
