Curtis Allen Garrett, born at home on November 23, 1937, in Siluria, Alabama, passed away at home on July 4, 2026, in Hoover, Alabama, after more than a decade of living with vascular dementia.
Curtis graduated from Thompson High School and attended the University of Montevallo. After several years of working in finance, he became an ironworker and retired from U.S. Steel after decades of service.
He had faithfully attended Fairfield Highlands Baptist Church in Midfield before his illness and received his 50-year membership certificate from the Grand Lodge of Alabama of Masons. His greatest joy in life was time on the water, particularly the decades he spent with family and friends at the lake house on Lake Martin. He enjoyed gospel music and took many trips to the mountains and Callaway Gardens.
Curtis is survived by his wife of 40 years Donna Gayle Williams Garrett, his sons Curtis Allen Garrett Jr. (Adria) and Scott David Garrett (Aline), grandchildren Ashli Clubine (Matt), Alex Garrett, Adair Garrett, and Andi Garrett, and great-grandchildren Evelyn Clubine and Bruce Clubine. He is also survived by his brother Charles (Linda) Garrett and sister Barbara Satterwhite.
Curtis was predeceased by his first wife Mary Emma Boockholdt Garrett, sister Ann Williams, and brothers Dewey Hobson Garrett Jr. and William Earl Garrett, and parents Dewey Hobson Garrett and Ruby Ozley Garrett.
We extend our deepest thanks to Donnie Wallin and Nancy Kramer, his devoted caregivers, for their support and compassion during his final years. We also appreciate the staff at ExpectCare Hospice for their dedication and compassionate service. We also acknowledge the Hoover Fire Department for their help with lift assistance. Finally, we recognize Lake Cyrus neighbors David and Phyllis Veazey for their assistance in recent years.
The service will be held at Currie Jefferson Funeral Home in Hoover. Visitation will be from 1-2 pm Thursday, July 9. The service will be 2-3 pm. The burial will be held afterward at Valhalla Cemetery in Midfield. Casual attire is appropriate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association (Alzheimer's Association ) in memory of Curtis Garrett.
