Carolyn Estelle
Beckwith
Aug 15, 1940 — Sep 3, 2026
Carolyn Estelle Beckwith, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and dear friend, passed away on September 3, 2026, at the age of 86 at home with family. She leaves behind a lifetime of love, faith, family, and beautiful memories that will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Born August 15, 1940, in Birmingham, Alabama, Carolyn was the 2nd of 6 children. She remained in the Birmingham area, living in Homewood, Hoover and Chelsea. In her youth, she would spend time following her father's major league baseball career, travelling to Detroit and other cities to watch him play. Baseball became such a huge part of her entire life alongside her father, especially supporting the Detroit Tigers, Rickwood Field and the Birmingham Barons. Virgil was inducted into the Alabama Baseball Hall of Fame in 1974 which brought even more joy and lifelong friendships to Carolyn across the US to Japan.
She was a proud graduate of Shades Valley High School in 1958 and loved spending time with her "Shades Valley Girls". She was the essence of a warm Southern Woman, a gracious nature, and a sincere appreciation for the people and places that made her life special.
She was employed at Liberty National where she met the love of her life, Larry. Larry and Carolyn were married for 61 years. During that time she also worked at Jefferson County Board of Education, IBM in Administration and BE&K as a Project Secretary.
In her leisure, Carolyn cherished time with family and friends, especially at "The Cabin" on Lake Martin where they spent all their summers and enjoyed many family reunions. She also loved camping/RVing with Larry. Caroyln, Larry and their family had traveled to all 50 states, Mexico, and all Canadian territories except 1 over the course of a long series of cross-country road trips and camping adventures. Many lifelong friends joined them along the way and many more were formed during those cross-country trips. Closer to home, she enjoyed a good book, spending time with Larry, her friends from church and watching her children and grandchildren grow up enjoying all their many endeavors.
Carolyns focus in life was being the best mother that she could be, and despite giving 100% of herself to that endeavor, she still managed to have her own career and was a lifelong volunteer to support anyone in need and many organizations across the area. One of her last contributions was being an original board member of the Alabama National Cemetery with her father Virgil. She had a sincere passion for the purpose and need to celebrate, cherish and memorialize our Veterans. Both Virgil, Larry and served in the US Navy, and Carolyn was very proud of their time in the service and beyond.
She was devoted to her family and would walk through fire for them. She embodied the best of qualities: unconditional love, strength of spirit, and an unending generosity that could be seen in her care for her family and friends.
Carolyn is survived by her loving husband Larry and brother Darryl Trucks, her children Greg Morrison, Kelli Pearson, son-in-law Michael Pearson, Robin Hutto and son-in-law Alan Hutto. She was blessed with 4 grandchildren, Justin, Ashley, Kristen and Daniel along with 3 great-grandchildren.
Those who knew Carolyn will remember her beautiful gracious spirit, her sense of style, her love of baseball, politics, her appreciation for life's simple pleasures, and the special way she loved her family. She had a gift for making life more beautiful simply by being in it.
Her family will miss her deeply-the sound of her voice, her stories, her laughter, her wisdom, and all the little things that made her uniquely Carolyn.
Carolyns life was beautiful, laced with faith, family, friendship, love, and memories. She will be forever cherished and never forgotten.
Pallbearers will be Michael Pearson, Ray Gamble, Lewis Trucks, Mathew Trucks, Alan Hutto, Walker Kent
