Candace Heard

Candace Laine Heard, 78, of Jefferson County, Alabama, passed away in her home on June 21, 2026.

 She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Charles (“C.B.”) Heard, III, son, Barry C. Heard of Nashville, TN, son, Charles E. Heard (Katherine) of Charlotte, NC, and one granddaughter, Lillian Cherry Heard of Charlotte, NC. She is preceded in death by her parents, Curtis and Jewel Flatt. 

Candace was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, educator, and Christian. She was a graduate of Coffee High School in Florence, Alabama, Florida College, and the University of Alabama Birmingham. After being a homemaker until her boys were older, Mrs. Heard taught for 18 years at Minor High School, where she instructed several Advanced Placement courses including English Literature and Composition, History, and Government. She coached the Scholars Bowl and “We, the People” Constitution teams, and she attained National Board Teacher Certification in 2002. 

She was a talented scholar, musician, and artist, providing great support to her sons in those areas as well. She loved traveling, decorating her homes, playing and listening to music, fashion, and shopping for her granddaughter. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Red Cross or Blood Cancer United.
