Betty Jean Cox Forester

August 3, 1937 — April 19, 2025

Betty peacefully passed into the presence of God at home at the age of 87, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Her daughters and granddaughter were by her side. She was preceded in death by her parents, James W. Cox and Alma Blalock of Clanton, AL, and her husband of 31 years, Frank D. Forester.

She is survived by her daughters, Denise LeCroy and Tena Walters (Thomas); her stepson, Mark Forester; her grandchildren, Janie Touchstone (Jesse) and Michael Walters (Heather); her sister, Mavis Palmer Hyche; one niece, one nephew, and twelve grandnieces and grandnephews.

Betty was a beloved, devoted, and loving mother, wife, daughter, and sister. She held the cherished role of a doting “Momise” to her grandchildren. She cherished her aunts, uncles, cousins & friends, loved her grand dogs and being “Aunt Bett”.

She taught her girls to be loving, honest and dependable; to manage finances, manage a household, sew, crochet, needlepoint & complete jigsaw puzzles. She illustrated organization and preparedness like no one else … which rubbed off on at least one of her daughters.

She was a homemaker most of her life but worked for some years and became a fierce single mother. She did without much so her girls wouldn't have to. She made most of their clothes as well as her own.

Her love of sewing included smocking, French lace, children’s clothing, drapes, bedding, and more. For many years, she & her friend Susan had a small seamstress business.

Momsie loved to spend time with her grandchildren and always had personal surprises on their special days. Over the years, she sewed them many amazing outfits and Halloween costumes. The sewing room also saw many hours of crafting, games, and Nick-At-Night shows.

Betty was a longtime, faithful member of Valleydale Church, where she delighted in serving and attending her Sunday school class. She also enjoyed being a member of the Indian Valley Women’s Club.

She went to great lengths to always give the most thoughtful greeting cards.

She maintained a yard too large for most, including a hillside of roses, and kept a massively stocked pantry. In fact, when Betty came to live with Tena, they didn’t have to buy paper towels for 2 years!

Betty was always authentically herself. She never put on airs around anyone, was kind-spirited, and you never had to guess what she was thinking. She had an immense capacity for forgiveness.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all her caregivers, family, friends, and support groups who helped them navigate the challenges of Alzheimer’s.

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing. 2 Timothy 4:7-8 ESV
