Ashley O’Sullivan Huffstutler was born August 11, 1987 to Mary and John L O’Sullivan, Jr. in Longview Texas. On May 14, 2022, Ashley met her Lord after a courageous battle with brain cancer.
Ashley attended Pine Tree High School in Longview where she graduated in 2006. She pursued a double major in Christian Studies and Sociology at Ouachita Baptist University where she graduated in 2009.
On January 2, 2010, Ashley married her best friend and the love of her life, David Huffstutler. In 2011, they moved to Hoover, Alabama to allow Ashley to attend the University of Alabama at Birmingham to participate in their Physical Therapy program. In 2014, Ashley, graduated with her Doctorate in Physical Therapy. Her passion was pediatric physical therapy as she desired to help children succeed regardless of physical limitations.
Ashley loved serving in the preschool ministry at The Church at Brook Hills. One of her other passions was missions. Ashley participated in numerous mission trips around the globe.
With an exquisitely beautiful heart, Ashley filled every space she entered with grace, humility, compassion, and the ability to see and esteem others. Captivatingly beautiful, joyful, lighthearted and faithful in friendship, she blessed all who had the honor of knowing her. Jesus Christ was Ashley’s greatest treasure, and the gospel emanated throughout all of her days.
She walked faithfully through her brain cancer diagnosis, always pointing to the goodness of God. She desired to be used by Him, for His glory, in all things, including her suffering. One way she grew in her faith was trusting in the Lord’s direction while writing a children’s book. This book was inspired by the love she had for her girls and for the promises of love and nearness that God shows us as children. When I Hold You resonated overwhelmingly with others and made several best seller lists.
Outside of her love for Christ, she treasured David, her champion and husband, and her beautiful daughters, Evelyn and Diana. She admired her mother, Mary (Honey), who walked with her faithfully through her suffering, as well as Haley, her beloved sister.
Ashley is survived by her husband, David, her daughters, Evelyn Grace and Diana Claire, her mother, Mary O’Sullivan Fruge (Jimmy), her sister Haley Eppes (John), and a host of other family and friends who adore her. Ashley is preceded in death by her father, John L O’Sullivan Jr., and her maternal and paternal grandparents. Ashley’s impact on people cannot be captured in words. Her memory will undoubtedly live on in those who had the joy and honor of knowing her.
Visitation will be held Thursday, the 19th at The Church at Brook Hills, from 9 to 10 am with a memorial service to immediately follow at the same location from 10 to 11am.
A graveside service for family will be held at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, in Hoover, where Ashley will be laid to rest.
In lieu of flowers, the family would love for Ashley’s book to be gifted to others. When I Hold You can be found on Amazon and other retailers. Donations may also be made to organizations for which Ashley was fond of, including: Sav-a-Life (savalife.org/donate) and The Blazer Bolt (blazerbolt.com) where all donations go toward brain tumor research and patient support.
