Archie Hand

Archie Hand of Bessemer, passed away on March 4, 2019, at the age of 94. He was a U.S. Marine Veteran of WWII and served in the Pacific. He was a Computer Science Engineer who installed the very first computers into the banking system in Birmingham, Alabama. Archie was a Professor of Computer Science at Samford University and a member of Briarwood Presbyterian Church. He is preceded in death by his wives, Sadie Hand and Susie Hand.

Archie is survived by his son, Jon Smith (Kristie); his daughter, Jo Campbell (Tony); grandchildren, Erin Butler (Chad), Dereth Wilson, Meaghan Wilson, Arend Smith (Lara), Camey Ramirez (Isaiah), Monica Zandstra (Greg), Matt Smith (Karen) and Brooke Griesbach (Mark); 9 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Carol Kenkel; and several nieces and cousins.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 7, 2019, from 1-2 PM at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, 2701 John Hawkins Parkway, Hoover, Alabama 35244. The service will follow in the Chapel at 2 PM. Interment will be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South.
