Jacob Richard Simmons

Mr. Jacob Richard Simmons (Jake) was born on October 1st, 1926 in Nathalie, VA to the late Leanna and Jacob Simmons.   At the age of 12 he moved to work in Baltimore, Maryland, and eventually settled in New York to continue to work. Jake met and married his loving wife of 43 years, Mae Simmons. He has four loving sons. Gary Simmons, The late Pastor Nathaniel Simmons, Sean Simmons, and Shannon Simmons.

Jake was employed with the LaGuardia Airport where he dutifully served with his brothers and his nephews thru out for over 40 years. He retired and moved with his wife to Alabama to be closer to his family.  One thing that we all should understand and take home today is that Mr. Simmons worked hard and took care of his family, no matter what!! Jake enjoyed spending time with his children and his grandchildren were the light of his life.

Preceded in death by his lovely wife, Willie Mae Simmons; sister, Irene Simmons-Jennings and son, Pastor Nathaniel Simmons. He spoke often and cherishes the memory of his brothers & sisters. Leroy Simmons, wife Lena , Clinton Simmons , wife Ruth, and His loving Sisters, Kathleen Bailey, Rose Cherry, and Gracie Tiller; His Sons, Sean Simmons, his wife Dawn, and Shannon Simmons and his wife Ashley, Angelic Simmons, the late Pastor Nathaniel Simmons wife. Jacob Richard Simmons was one of the funniest men to ever live on this earth. He often joked of one day being a talk show host or an advisor to the president of the United States. He really had good advice and commentary. His sons have honored their father & grandfather by starting & naming a restaurant chain down in Alabama , Jake's Soul Food Cafe. He was a regular and loved sharing with strangers that the food was really good. He made the brand what it is. The staff will miss him dearly!

The family will receive friends from 12-2, Monday, April 30, 2018, at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, Hwy 150 in Hoover.  Committal service will follow at 2 PM in the Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South Abbey Mausoleum.
